Tulsa-based Beautiful Brands International has added branded products from The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf at its current Camille’s Sidewalk Cafe at 96th Street and Riverside Drive as part of a plan to market the drink concept internationally. “Camille has been searching for over five years for a coffee and tea brand that would be perfect features in our stores,” BBI founder and CEO David Rutkauskas said of his wife, Camille. “After spending some time with The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf executives in southern California, we are confident about featuring it.” The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf menu includes its original ice blended drink, whole-leaf teas, premium coffees, fresh baked goods and oatmeal. The drink brand is expected to be expanded to other stores in the first quarter of 2013 in Tulsa and around the world. The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf is one of the oldest importers, roasters and multi-unit retailers of specialty coffee and tea in the United States. The company serves more than 40 varieties of loose-leaf teas and premium coffees, which are roasted European style in small batches, then packed and delivered to the store. Founded in 1963 in California, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf has expanded throughout the world during the past 40 years.

I’m often asked how I was able to turn a 250 square foot, mall cafe into an international restaurant franchise company. But, to tell you the truth I don’t believe I can narrow it down to one thing. Let’s just say it was a combination of factors namely a willingness to take a risk, a good, smart woman by my side, and a strong will to succeed. Quite honestly, it was a pretty simple idea at first. We knew we could fill a niche for the typical mall customer who wanted something fresher and tastier than the fried, greasy food we had in malls back in 1995. That gave us the idea of a fresh food cafe in the mall that was all about quality food a fast casual atmosphere. We took our plans to the mall manager and within weeks started up our new concept. The rest is history. I started franchising the business in 1998. We signed our first franchisee in 1999, and got the first franchised location open in Oklahoma City that same year. That franchisee is still operating her Camille’s Sidewalk Cafe to this day. I created Beautiful Brands in 2007 as a way to help others succeed and that’s where I am today. My company, Beautiful Brands, now consults with other retail and restaurant concepts that have successful business models that could benefit from franchising. We help great concepts that have superior menus and unique qualities, and build a brand around them. We help turn them into replicable models that are efficient, streamlined, and beautifully branded. Creating your own destiny. Innovating. Taking the initiative. Forming your future. These have been my mantras over the years and what has taken us from a single store concept to one of the fastest growing franchise companies in the world. Remember, success is only an idea away. Learn to dream big and never be afraid to fail.

We are honored to be feature by TulsaFood.com in there “Homegrown to Well-known” series.
This week I want to spotlight Camille’s Sidewalk Cafe which is the creation of David Rutkauskas and his wife, Camille. They started the Camille’s concept back in 1996. Now, if you want to talk about a true homegrown, rags to riches kind of story Camille’s is it. A lot of us remember when it was just a 250 square foot cafe located under the elevator at Woodland Hills Mall. It was like a little oasis that you just happened to walk up on.
